Extraordinary Congress of Euroregion "Tatry" adopts resolution on the accession of the Euroregion “Tatry” Association to a European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation ltd

On 28 August 2012 in the Centre for Polish-Slovak Cooperation in Nowy Targ an extraordinary meeting of the Congress of  Euroregion “Tatry” Accociation was held. The event was attended by the delegates of the Euroregion “Tatry” Association and the guests invited for the occasion: Deputy Consul-General for Slovak Republic in Krakow Mr Tomasz Kašaj, Senator of the Republic of Poland Prof. Dr hab. Stanisław Hodorowicz, Vice Mayor of Nowy Targ Mr Eugeniusz Zajączkowski, President of the Polish-Slovak Chamber of the Industry and Commerce Mr Piotr Cebulski, President of the Chamber of Commerce in Nowy Targ Mr Marek Teper, Head of the Joint Technical Secretariat Mr Grzegorz Gołda. Among the participants there were Honorary Members of the Euroregion “Tatry”: Wendelin Haber, Czesław Borowicz, Olga Marhulikova, Antoni Nowak, Jan Skupin, dr Bogdan Wrzochalski and the guests fromSlovakia.

Within the framework of the Congress, an informational workshop on European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation TATRY  was organized. Its participants learned about the legal basis regarding the establishment of the EGTC, its main objectives, characteristics and constitutive elements, as well as the activities of the Euroregion “Tatry” undertaken in order to create an EGTC. In the second part of the workshop the drafts of the Convention and the Statutes  of the EGTC TATRY were presented and set out in details. These documents are a successful outcome of the several months of works of the Polish-Slovak Commission for EGTC, extensive consultation, analyses and joint arrangements between Polish and Slovak partners, carried out under the network project “From Euroregion Tatry to a European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation” co-funded Project co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund under the Republic of Poland - Slovak Republic Cross-border Co-operation Operational Programme 2007-2013.

The Congress unanimously adopted the resolution on the accession  of the Euroregion “Tatry” Association to a European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation ltd. The resolution and its accompanying drafts of the Convention and the Statutes give rise to undertake further steps in the process of the establishing the EGTC TATRY, that is to obtain the approval of the competent national authorities for the registration of the Grouping. By the establishment of the Grouping, Polish-Slovak cross-border cooperation will be elevated to a higher formal, legal, substantive and institutional level, thus helping to overcome the barriers encountered by joint Polish-Slovak initiatives and solving the problems of the border community.

The resolution was adopted in a particular moment for Euroregion “Tatry” – it marks the 18th anniversary of its operation. The presentation brought back the track record related to activities and initiatives undertaken by the Euroregion.

Mr Wendelin Haber - the Chairman of the Council of Euroregion “Tatry”  from 1994 to 2011, the Honorary Member and President of Euroregion “Tatry” - was decorated by the Vice Marshall of Malopolskie Voivodship Mr Andrzej Harężlak on behalf of the President of Poland with the Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta for his outstanding achievements in the field of furthering Polish-Slovak cooperation and for his work in the interest of local communities.
