Committee of the Region's opinion on the draft amendments to Regulation on an EGTC

On 15-16 February 2012 the Committee of the Regions held a plenary session, which initiated the discussion about the European Commission's proposal of amendments for the Regualtion 1082/2006 on European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation, aiming to simplify the set-up and operation conditions for the EGTC. Michael Delebarre, rapporteur for the CoR oppinion of this subject, said that "the Commission's proposals are definitelly heading in the right direction". The members of CoR unanimously adopted prepared by Mr Delebarre draft opinion on the revision of the EGTC Regulation. Moreover, it was emphasised that the Regulation should be adopted as swiftly as possible. For this purpose, Mr Delebarre asked the European Parliament rapporteur, Joachim Zeller, to make sure that this issue was dealt separately from the legislative package on the Structural Funds for the years 2014-2020.

On 29th March an inter-institutional conference on the European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation is announced to be held. It will be open to the participation of the Members of the European Parliament, the EU Member States and the Members of the Committee of the Regions, as well as the European Commission.
